Ode to the Senyera

The new shirt of FC Barcelona is an ode to the Senyera, the flag of Catalonia, thereby making a political statement to support the independence movement.

The shirt is promoted with the slogan ‘Ho portem dins’ (It’s deep within us) which is multi interpretable: it relates to the history of the club but also to the Catalonian strive for independence. The shirt will be worn in away games in La Liga, the Spanish competition.

FC Barcelona also released a press statement after the imprisonment of the leaders of the separatists movement last October. Herein they stated that ‘Prison is not the solution’ and that the solution for the conflict should come ‘exclusively from political dialogue’.
