Post office on Chagos Archipelago stops sending mail abroad

In October 2021 “Sure updates” announces that the Post office of Diego Garcia, an island of the Chagos Archipelago, temporarily suspended the outbound postal service until ongoing discussions with the United Postal Union (UPU) are solved.

On August 27 of 2021, the UPU announced the decision of the member countries on their 27th congress: the UPU will no longer register, distribute of forward postage stamps issued by the British Indian Ocean Territory. Reason: the Chagos Archipelago are an integral part of the territory of Mauritius according to the UN judicial organ, the International Court of Justice in The Hague in 2019.
