The Sovereign Yidindji Government is an indigenous micronation in North Australia. The people of Yidindji claim ‘the right to self-determination, the right to autonomy or self-government in matters relating to their internal and local affairs, as well as ways and means for financing their autonomous function’ as stated by article 4 of the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The Commonwealth of Australia acknowledges and recognizes the government, but an official treaty regarding the rights to the land still has to be settled.
