Talossa, meaning ‘inside the house’ in Finnish, was created by the then 14-year-old Robert Ben Madison in 1979. He made a flag, drew an emblem and published a handwritten newspaper for a small group of family and friends. The Kingdom of Talossa attracted more popularity in 1995 when Madison opened a website for his fictive nation. People could register as citizens and Madison even constructed a language for the country which was further developed by the online community. In 2005 Madison abandoned his project, but the Talossian community is still active and maintains a web presence, although it is not clear who has ownership over this micronation.
